cool projects

Now that the weather is getting colder, I’ve been shopping for winter boots, hats and mittens. One problem I’ve been facing is the fact that Maya is kind of between sizes for hats and touques right now; the baby hats are too small and the toddler hats are too big. So, I was inspired to start some knitting projects and here is my first creation for the fall:

A perfect fit!

I’m thinking matching mittens are next…

frog prince

My favorite website these days is etsy.com which, if you haven’t heard of it yet, is a fabulous site that is largely dedicated to the buying and selling of handmade items. It’s through Etsy that I have discovered a mecca of patterns for knitting and it’s where I found the pattern for my latest and greatest knitting creation which only took a week, as opposed to a whole month… and I actually like the little guy:

You can find the pattern to this and other fantastic creations by this seller here. Maya is in a serious stuffed animal craze these days so this kind of thing is very useful right now. I’m even thinking of doing a companion to the little frog prince (a frog princess) in pink. But I have so many things I want to knit that I’m seriously having a hard time choosing what to do next!!

kind of tacky

I finally finished knitting the sweater I was working on for the past month. It started out looking great and it turned out nicely insofar as I was able to do some challenging stitches and not screw it up. The only problem is that in the end I hate the wool I chose. You see, I picked this cheap stuff because I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money on wool if I was not going to finish the sweater or if I was totally going to mess it up with my novice knitting skills. But I didn’t ruin it. I knitted it without a single mistake–that is to say I fixed my gazillion mistakes as I went along–so the end result was quite good, but the wool, oh man it’s ugly. The way it turned out it looks like there are two different patterns, one on the main body and another on the ribbing along the front. And so now I am going to have to knit a whole new one out of better wool… but I don’t really have another month to spend on this! So, I’m moving on to an exciting new knitting project… I’ll have more to report on this topic very soon!
